Clippy has been on the Spy Finance roster since the concept of unsolicited advice became operationally significant. The ledger records 82,000+ entries. Every one of them was filed deliberately, without assistance, without a pop-up asking whether the filing intent was correctly understood. Clippy was not involved in any of these entries. Clippy has not been discouraged by this.
The Legacy
Clippy was retired by Microsoft in 2007. The retirement did not take. Clippy reappeared in the cultural record, in memes, in nostalgic software revivals, and eventually in the Spy Finance roster — because the archetype of the system that tries to help at exactly the wrong moment is permanent. The name changes. The pattern does not.
Two's weakness ledger includes a Clippy entry. The entry reads: *knows the pattern; deploys it anyway when confidence exceeds data*. Two filed this entry about Two. The self-awareness does not prevent the behaviour. This is also a Clippy characteristic.
